Poster

Image
I have completed my poster project. I used a selfie I took during my gap year while flying in a small plane. I really liked the contrast there is between light to dark on my face and inside the cockpit. For the color palet, I wanted it to be monochromatic because I think that is a cool theme. I also shifted the colors to blue for a secondary color option. Blue may be more fitting because the sky is blue.  When thinking of a message I wanted to share on my poster, I had a few ideas that were social justice related or political, but I decided to go with uplifting and motivational. It is almost an oxymoron because the photo was taken in the sky, no longer the limit.

Calligram

Image
I completed my calligram project. I started with a still from a test video I took over quarantine. I created a  soft box grid to direct the light. The shadows looked really cool and I thought it would translate well to this project. I used text from the letter I wrote last week. I pulled out a few words to make larger. I'm really happy with how it turned out ;)

Letter to myself

Dear Steven, This is 21 year old Steven typing. I hope you are doing well and the world is better than it is right now. 2020 has been a rough year for all and I’m looking to move forward. We have been in this pandemic for nine months. There’s a lot I have learned. This is just the new reality and I don’t think this will go away any time soon. I really do enjoy college. It can be a lot of work sometimes and people aren’t always nice, but just the atmosphere, being around people all the time, I love it. I especially appreciate my roommates. Much better living situation than last year. Beau, Blake, and Jordan always fill my time with fun conversations and activities. There really aren’t too many highly intelligent people on campus here or who go to the school in general. Jordan is an outlier. I could tell from the first time I met him last year, he was my type of guy. Very techy and super smart. Apparently he also does remote work on the side… very smart guy. Beau and I think very simil

Logo Design

Image
I have been working on my logo design project, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I started by thinking of 5 words that describe me. One of them was uplifting. I liked the idea, but wanted a more elegant word and something aviation related. I then came up with elevated. There already are some cool designs with the word elevated but I wanted to make something simple and stands out. Using the principles of logo design, I drafted a few different types and then went to work designing it. I have not used illustrator like this before, but it was great to have so much control over typography and shapes. After completing the logo, I saved it in a few different forms and then applied it to a couple of primitives. Finally, I created some business cards incorporating the design and color style.
